Justice Or Else.

And yesterday I took a part in history. My sorority sisters and I (Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.) pressed our way from Norfolk, VA to Washington, D.C. late Friday night to prepare for an inspiration Saturday. Our goal was to participate in the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March; themed “#JusticeOrElse,” and boy did we!

We witnessed hundreds of thousands of people gather from all over the states, from California to Mississippi to Chicago to New York and the list goes on.

Powerful voices echoed through the crowd commemorating the moment, speakers included Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, and the leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan, which also sponsored the rally.

It was truly an amazing experience, an optimal time to be a part of something greater than self, and a chance for our generation to really take a stand against injustices of Black Americans and Black and Brown people all over the world.

The discussion spanned from unlawful acts against Blacks to Hispanic injustices and the news of the Dominican Republic deportation of Haitians.

Farrakhan and other speakers, many who spoke during the 1995 Million Man March, warned us to remember that we all come from the same place and hate against someone who looks like you is hate against yourself.

Justice or Else is more than a day of commerce, it is a movement that should become a part of history books.
